Wagrain Bike park

August 31st, 2008 | Category: Bikes, Outdoors!, Photography

A new camera is ordered, but had not arrived in time for this weekend, so I put the blackberry camera to the test and it did ok, although there is a big delay when you press the button. We drove 45mins to Wagrain to check out another park which had a huge selection of lines from tight and technical to flowing with big doubles, hips and gaps and a small jump park at the bottom. It’s probabally the best park I have ridden so far. I went down with a Christof from KTM and Topi from Kiska, and when we were there we met up with Canadian Corey from headoverwheels.de who was responsible for building a lot of the park, including the epic wallride.
Since the images are pretty low res, I made a collage, which you can click to make bigger.

Broken Camera

August 27th, 2008 | Category: Bikes, Photography

Daaam, my friend crashed into me landing a wallride lastnight, the good part is my camera took the full impact of the hit so I didnt get hurt, the bad news is my camera is toast. Anyone got any recommendations for a decent new wideangle point and shoot?
Last photo my camera took of itself before it’s insides fell out.

PJ’s new ride

August 27th, 2008 | Category: Design

Out with the old…

In with the new..
In many ways I prefered the old 7 series, especially the wheels, but this m Coupe is pretty slick.

Ok, that’s better..
Thanks to Glynn for the (Photoshop) rims..

Duino, Italy

August 25th, 2008 | Category: Photography, Travel

The forecast was for rain all weekend in Salzburg, so we missioned it down to a Small fishing villiage in Duino, Italy, where it was meant to be sunny and a 3 hour drive. 6 hours later we arrived and a MASSIVE storm rolled in. The next day was sunny and well hot though and we did the drive back in just over 3 hours after spending the day eating and swimming in the sea.  Was a cool trip.

Testing

August 21st, 2008 | Category: Bikes, Design

I got to test a load of bikes yesterday including the new Kiska designed 2009 Husaberg 450 which turned better than any bike I have ridden offroad and pulled like a ferrari. The KTM 250f EXC was pretty good too but had nothing on the husaberg. I can’t say anything about the other bikes I tested as they are top secret..

For some reason left hand wallrides feel more sketchy.

A Weird World?

August 19th, 2008 | Category: Economy, Outdoors!, Photography, Snow, Travel

I havent posted anything in a while so felt like sharing a few thoughts and links that have crossed my path recently……

Since I went on holiday the markets seem to have turned on their heads, especially Oil, Gold and the US$, and more than a few have been stung by it.

Some people think the recent military action is the beginnning of the end while, as often, there seems to be more and more going on than meets the eye….

Last night I listened to a couple of students near me in a pub discussing whether it was justifiable to kill 6 Billion in order for 1 Billion to have adequate resources to live on…is it? Is that even a legitimate discussion?!

Meanwhile people just keep on spending stupid money on houses, including this one just along the coast from where I was on holiday… or this extra ordinary converted church I photographed recently, on the market for an unlikely £3m…

Or this Behemoth, on for £10m…

So in the wider world, are certain groups really still intent on provoking war?

Its easy to let it all just overwhelm, so I’ve been going here and dreaming of simple pleasures and next winters snow….

However, its clear that the months between now and when I actually get out of both this creaking industry and this stinky cynical city are going to be one hell of a ride…..

Climb/BBq

Short hike up GaisbergSpitz

Last night we went for a sunset bbq, but missed the sunset and somehow managed to not bring any coals (until after sunset), a bbq, (just a tinfoil tray), knives, tongs or anything else. The food tasted like wood but the beer was good.

Iran

August 14th, 2008 | Category: Photography, Travel

My good friend PJ Just got back from a trip to Iran and checked in:
“Some pics of Persepolis, Yazd and Shiraz, the ancient Persian capital.

Persepolis just about humbles anything I have seen in Italy or Greece. Built during the period of Kings Darius, Cyrus and Xerxes about 500 BC.

Amazing texts and scriptures by various Kings, showing how far ahead the Persians were in regards to early Democratic thinking as well as basic human rights.

Drove by Natanz too, where the underground nuclear site is located. 30k each way littered with manned anti aircraft positions. There was definitely an aura of readiness and imminent attack possibility.

Very tense in that region and friggin hot, from 44-48 every day.
Various pics of ancient villages, anti Israel and pro Hezbollah propaganda too…as always;)

Later…

WRC FINLAND

August 12th, 2008 | Category: Green motoring

Just wanted to share some shots I took at the WRC in Finland, have the feeling that Derestricted needed some motorized stuff and not only bicycles… The rally was quite cool, pain in the ass to get from stage to stage as a spectator though, but when these guys comes 160+ on tiny gravel roads just meters away from you it’s kinda worth it.

The finnish way of having a party…
