Above the clouds/Über den Wolken

January 31st, 2009 | Category: Snow

Just had my phone for a camera today so the photos are pretty low quality, but man was the snow good! We had to work for it with a hike to get high above the clouds but it was well worth it.
Heading to Munich winter ISPO tommorow…

-273 Launch & Shop

The superior man fosters his character by thoroughness in all that he does. A spring succeeds in flowing on and escapes stagnation by filling up all the hollow places in its path. In the same way character is developed by thoroughness that skips nothing but, like water, gradually and steadily fills up all gaps and so flows onward. Perseverance furthers.

-273 = absolute zero.
You can only go up from there.

Train of thought/Gedankengang

January 23rd, 2009 | Category: -273, Design, Misc, Music

So I was brushing my teeth last night and was wearing this t-shirt with a dogs head on a human body, which concept wise is the same idea as in the pictures I posted below from the shop window and I got to thinking if the designer had been to Spain (where I bought it) and seen the same t-shirt. However, I then realised I had seen the same Idea many years earlier in Sumerian (around 5000bc) and Egyptian depictions of their gods.

As a designer you are always striving to do something new, but I think it was Sun Ra (who probabally took the saying from somewhere else) who said there is nothing new under the sun. I guess the best you can strive for are fresh reinterpretations, or reintroductions.

Everywhere/Überall

January 21st, 2009 | Category: Misc

Yea, things are a mess right now with rising unemployment everywhere and riots and protests last week in Greece, latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Iceland, but perhaps nowhere has it so bad as Palestine. If you want to know the truth behind what is really going on in this chapter of the saga, Chomsky has a solid piece here. For a more personal look, my sister Clara bought me a fantastic Illustrated documentary book called Palestine by Joe Sacco which gives you an insight into the mindset of the Palestinian people and why imprisoning the whole country, bombing the remains of it’s infrastructure and hospitals, stealing its land, trying to destroy it’s democratically elected governement, Killing thousands (mostly civilians, women and children) and maiming tens of thousands etc, etc, etc, will not change anything.

Peace.

Finally/Endlich

January 17th, 2009 | Category: Snow

This was my first try over the jump and I was surprised how smooth the landing and take off were.  Since I saw it a year ago I have been fiending to hit it, but I was recovering from a fractured Vertebrae last season so was under orders to take it easy. It has taken from then until now to get up the balls to hit it. Had a major bee in my bonnet about it so I am relieved to have finally done it.  After the first time over I was ready to hit it again.

As long as you have a lot of speed you are fine.

Thanks for the photos Benny.

Benny.

So after being in German speaking parts of the world for over 3 years, in an effort to learn some more vocab I am going to write the post titles in English AND Deutsche.

Salzburg beach

January 16th, 2009 | Category: Outdoors!

In the winter when the water level of the river gets really low, Salzburg gets a beach of sorts. I wasnt there at the time (Luckily!) but last winter some friends swam across the river in the early morning after a night out. brrrrrr.

…you know when you really want to do something, but you need to think about it first, but then the more you think about it, the harder it gets? That’s kind of where I am at right now with this jump… I am determined to hit it eventually… just taking more time than it used to.
