About -273
As you may or may not know, -273 is absolute zero, or −273.15 °C to be exact. It is the coldest temperature theoretically possible and cannot be reached by artificial or natural means, because it is impossible to decouple a system fully from the rest of the universe. We established the company really to see if we could make something from nothing. To rise up from absolute zero.

We have a history and passion for racing, be it bikes or cars, skiis or snowboarding and all ride and compete as much as possible, although as we have aged we have started heading deeper into the backcountry, to find better powder, better lines, finding freedom in self expression, less about beating the clock, and more about staying in the present.

Although preferring to cut class as kids to ride, nowadays you are as likely to find us buried deep in books as deep in powder, on a never ending quest for knowledge. One of the main foundational insights of the Anglo-Saxon civilization is that unenlightened people are easier to control than enlightened ones. Through our website we hope to enlighten both ourselves and anyone who reads it, whilst still remaining skeptical empiricist’s
Peace.

About Piers
Since leaving London back in 2000 I have been fortunate enough to work on some great projects. Firstly, I moved to Italy to work for Alpinestars for three and a half years, designing and producing their website, a lot of their advertising and a few products.

I was then offered the job of Interactive director at Fox racing and moved to California which had always been a childhood dream. After a year, a redesigned website, some fun micro sites, a load of adverts, creative direction on some catalogues and the design of the 80sq foot Fox booth at the San Diego ASR Tradeshow I was happy to move back to Europe.

Barcelona to be precise. Whilst there I worked as a freelance designer/producer for Hybrid studios in LA on some excellent projects including The Mr and Mrs Smith website, The Buffy the Vampire slayer portal and some other fun projects. I also designed and produced sites for top Formula Nippon/Japan GT driver Andre Lotterer, an Interior design company in Barcelona and a few others.

From out of the blue I then received a great offer to move to Leo Burnett in Frankfurt as Art director on the Marlboro racing/Marlboro after dark websites for Russia and Mexico. I stayed there for a couple of years before moving to Kiska where I am still.

You can view a selection of my work here or contact me using the details below.

    Hi Lucy,
I just have a Canon powershot which was about 300 euro. Pretty basic but you can do a lot with it. I use photoshop usually to make the photos nicer too.

    Hi Piers

I am a regular to derestricted, always really interesting stuff. I am also an avid motocross fan and rider (of sorts). I just wanted to ask you how you managed to get to work for Alpinestars and Fox. I am currently working at Dyson (UK) as a senior digital media designer but would love a design job somewhere in the motocross world. Any advice, contacts you would be willing to pass my way?

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Piers-

Thanks for sharing your visually stunning website. Really like the astronomy photos. I was hoping that in your quest for knowledge you had included the Bible in your readings. The perfection and wonder of our body, our world and universe (see website photos) is evidence to something beyond our basic comprehension and the Bible is the link to that knowledge. It explains our life’s simple purpose, to avoid sin and live for Christ, so that when He returns He will raise us from the dead as He was raised, and allow us to live forever with Him. Yes, forever – this life is just the beginning my friend. I pray you discover this truth, for it will give you peace and happiness beyond your wildest dreams. May God bless you and yours…:)

Happy you like the site. Yes, I have read the bible a few times, it has some great stories and reinterpretations of Ancient myths, but I find the earlier Greek, Egyptian, Assyrian and Sumerian tales of the gods to be more revealing.
If you want to read more about Mesopotamian mythology and other related pre-history, there is a whole category here:

As an aside, my great Aunt spent decades researching our family tree and traced it all the way back to Hercules, who was a demi god. True story. At least that’s what she said.
I guess in that respect you could say I found traces of a god within me, and yes, that certainly made me happy : )
Overall though, I subscribe to the Epicurean view, that the original gods did and still do exist but no longer concern themselves at all with human beings.

    Hi Piers,

Great site and even better pictures. Really like the older selection of pictures from the X Games. Just came across you site looking for gallery widgets etc. What one did you use exactly on your following page?

Do you ride (snowboard) much in Cali? Did a couple of seasons out there working in Lake Tahoe a few years back.

    Take it easy

Cheers Chris, no more cali for me, I am over in Europe now, so ride all of the resorts in Salzburgland every weekend in Austria. I use Carousel Gallery (jQuery) for the photo slide-shows which works pretty good, although I see it is messed up right now since I updated it. doh.
