This is the first new MX bike I have ever owned. Bought by myself in October 2011 at the ripe old age of 35, it has been brilliant from day 1. Apart from a new rear sprocket, chain, bars and grips I left it pretty much stock for the first year, before switching to 2013 plastics mid season as we had some lying around.
In the time I have had it, the only maintenance I have done on it has been to make sure the chain is oiled, all the bolts are tight, a couple of oil changes, air filter cleaning and some new tyres. I have always ridden 2 strokes but have been vaguely toying with the idea of getting a 250 SXF or a 350 SXF to make life a little easier for myself when hitting some of the trickier jumps close to corners at our local track.
Anyway, after some thought I figured as I was still having more fun riding this than I ever have on a 4 stroke and since it would kind of be a stretch to buy and maintain a 4 stroke I might as well keep it a bit longer and just tune it up a bit.
Over the winter I have put in a new piston and rings, changed the jetting, added a new factory race pipe and silencer, Selle Dalla Valle factory seat and some new wider and grippier ZAP footpegs. The after market silencer is so small that it left a gaping hole where the 2nd fastening was, so I got a moose racing grab bar to hide the hole but it is also great to use when picking the bike up off the stand.
To finish it off for now I designed some cutom GFX to fit with the stock Kiska designed inmould GFX and added the number 273 to pay homage to my buddy and ex business partner PJ at -273.
Now I just got to wait a couple more months for the snow to melt and the tracks to open.

I read it all the way to the end before realizing it was not for sale:) Sweet bike, and I agree, whats the point of going faster if it’s less fun? (4-stroke)
yea, I think the new 4 stroke 250 sxf and 350sxf would be pretty fun too though! Wasnt a big fan of the 2012 bikes but I heard the new ones are pretty dam good. hope to give them a try soon.
Bike looks awesome! Love the factory pipe – they look so bad ass! How’s the silencer sound? Did it change the hit characteristics at all?
Will tell you in spring when the snow clears and the tracks open and I can try it!
How did you get the 2013 plastics to fit on the 2012?
Fitted the 2013 Airbox and the 2013 lower triple clamp.
love this. nicest looking bke n graphics ive seen.
Thanks Christian
hey where can I find these graphics?
I just made the one set, sorry!
where did you make them? do you still have the plans?
I made them at my work. SOrry William, cant really sell them as I design GFX for KTM as my day job so it would be kind of a conflict of interests.
Looks awesome!
New seat cover from PP is tricky.
Im waiting for riding shoots!
:)
lovely bike mate! :)))))))
E entaki kali einai,ade,…
hahahahah
I’m also following the same route at the moment. My 05 Husaberg FS650S is expensive to maintain and so I’m opting for a second machine – something that will not cost me an arm and a leg to run, tune up, fix or play with. I’ve settled on an 06 – 08 CRF 250R over a 450. This just seems like a solid bike choice – light, agile, fast So now just scanning the interwebs looking for the ‘right’ one to make an appearance… and then the fun starts!
