Having a son has really made me see the father son bond in a new light. I came across this photo of MotoGP superstar Vallentino Rossi with his dad back in 1988 and thought it was really sweet as his dad was obviously such a massive influence and motivating force in his life. Judging by the background they are already at a racetrack somewhere.

My old man bought me my first motorcycle for my 4th birthday and took me skiing in the same year, both of which in many ways set the course of my life. Even though he has grown more and more distant over the years, (3 months after the birth, he has yet to make any plans to see his grandson) I am really grateful to him for introducing me to 2 of the loves of my life.

When it comes to bikes, for me it’s all about performance, tricked out DH bikes, dirt jumpers or solid BMX’s. I like going flat out, going everywhere and doing jumps and no dis-respect to guys who ride em as they must be pretty fun anyway, but you just cant do that properly on fixed gear bikes.

Whilst I can and do appreciate the simplicity and design of them when they are done well, fixed gear bikes just never cut it for me. Too much style over substance. If I wanted a minimal bike I would go the BMX route so at least i could do decent size drops, jumps and bunny hops without breaking the wheels or frame. Jumping and tricks on fixed gears bikes just looks dumb to me. Sorry. They just aint made for that. The bikes do however often LOOk good, and that brings me to this site. Basically lots of tricked out fixed gear bikes and fairly untricked out chicas, but its pretty cool anyway. Just for looking. www.thefixfixfix.com/fix

My sister Cla popped over for the weekend from the UK, which Henry really enjoyed.

The weather was shite so we went for a trip to some ice caves outside Salzburg.

Henry came too. It was below freezing in the caves but it was also cold outside. Went from Summer to Winter here in a few days. Snow on the peaks already this morning too and it’s only August!

There is nothing new in the video above to anyone who reads Zero Hedge or any other impartial news source, but if it takes a documentary to reach the masses who don’t read, it’s better late than never since this mess is still ongoing. There has been no recovery, only a cover up.

The Yen hit a 15-year high against the dollar yesterday. Since Japan’s economy is heavily reliant on exports, a stronger Japanese currency curbs the profits of large Japanese companies. Also yesterday, existing U.S. homes fell more than 27% in July, the largest one-month drop on record, California is To Issue IOUs For the Second Year In A Row, the second time in as many years (going all the way back to the Great Depression), U6 unemployment is around 17% and all of the western sovereign nations are bankrupt already with no way to pay for their future liabilities, let alone pay down their debt. All this before we have even started sliding down the back of Hubberts peak after the bumpy plateau we have been on since 2005.

Antonio Cairoli and KTM – 2010 FIM MX1 World Champions

Antonio Cairoli took the revolutionary KTM 350 SX-F machine (designed by Kiska!) to success yesterday in Brazil and wrapped up his fourth World Title in a nailbiting finish.
I watched it live on freecaster last night and it was pretty exciting. Cairoli came from 4th and was catching on Desalle and pressing for the lead when he went down, dropping him back to 4th again. He got back up and put on a massive charge, overtaking back up to 2nd and then closing a couple of seconds every lap on Desalle. With around a 5 second gap and 3 laps left, it looked like the race would come down to the line, when disaster struck Desalle as his Suzuki suffered from a mechanical failure, handing the win, and the title to Cairoli and KTM. Stoked!

“I didn’t expect to win here but its always nice to be world champion as soon as possible,” Tony said. “I didn’t take any risks and I was also a bit lucky that Desalle stopped, but that is racing. for sure I am happy with the new bike. I never had to stop for any technical problem and that is really important if you want to be constant. I love this bike and the whole team, they have helped me a lot!”

Tony has enjoyed a remarkable season on the new bike. He rode it to victory in its first ever appearance in the pre-season race at Star Mantova Italy and has continued to be in the forefront of the competition throughout the season. The bike that was developed in close cooperation with 10-times world champion and Red Bull KTM’s team boss stefan Everts has proved itself to be a light and very agile rival to the more powerful MX1 450 machines.

Cairoli has so far won seven GPs and 13 of 26 individual motos in the 2010 season.
